We started TSR because movie coverage increasingly feels divided between instant reactions, recycled news, and criticism written to satisfy an algorithm. We wanted something more deliberate: a publication where a review can take a film seriously without losing the pleasure of talking about movies.
Our coverage ranges from major studio releases to smaller films deserving a wider audience. We publish reviews, essays, rankings, awards analysis, release guides, and ongoing coverage of what is playing now and what is coming next.
The theater remains central to how we think about film. Presentation matters. Sound matters. Image matters. So does the experience of watching a movie with a room full of strangers. We cover theatrical formats and exhibition not as technical footnotes, but as part of the work itself.
TSR is built around clear opinions rather than manufactured consensus. Our writers may disagree, rankings do not always follow scores, and enthusiasm is never treated as something that needs to be qualified away. The goal is not to have the loudest reaction. It is to make the case thoughtfully and put our name on it.
